The decision to expel two Romanian diplomats from Moldova was entirely right, President Vladimir Voronin stated today at a news conference, Info-Prim Neo reports. The most important issue today on the bilateral agenda with Romania, Voronin says, is the conclusion of two agreements – the Basic Political Treaty and the Moldovan-Romanian Border Treaty. The unwillingness to sign these agreements shows that Romania is still not recognising the Republic of Moldova as a sovereign state, declared the President, adding that the future of the relationship with Romania depends directly on the conclusion of these documents. The Moldo-Romanian issues are now closely watched by the European Union, as they have gone beyond the dimension of Moldova’s relations with Romania; they now represent Romania’s problems with the EU, Vladimir Voronin stated. On December 12, the Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Filip Teodorescu was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova and familiarised with a Verbal Note by which two diplomas of the diplomatic mission were declared unwelcome in Moldova and asked to leave the country within 24 hours. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania described the act as inimical, unjustified and incompatible with Romania’s permanent constructive and cooperative attitude towards Moldova, but said it would not expel any Moldovan diplomat in return.
