Mobile teams of Moldovan police officers are patrolling the peacekeeping post near Vadul lui Voda under a decision of the Joint Control Commission. “The teams have been deployed starting Friday, January 13, and will continue patrolling (the site) as long as the situation remains tense”, Gen. Ion Solonenco, the Commission's co-chairman on behalf of Moldova told Info-Prim Neo. The decision was adopted following discussions in the Commission during January 10-13. Within the next 5 days, starting today, January 14, the Joint Military Command is to propose solutions to improve the peacekeeping mission in the region and formulate proposals concerning the use of additional traffic signs and speed limiting installations at peacekeeping post no.9 near Vadul lui Voda. The Commission is recommending parties to avoid acts that could escalate the situation in the region. To alleviate the tension, the Commission is also asking the population in the Security Zone to abstain from any form of manifestations. On January 1, a peacekeeping officer at checkpoint no.9 near Vadul lui Voda shot and killed a 18-year-old local.
