A number of Moldovan NGOs published an appeal showing their solidarity with the Romanian civil society in its call for a “return to democratic and constitutional normality” and denouncement of the recent infringements on the rule of law, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The Romanian organizations genuinely committed to democratic values have lately expressed their concerns about the recent developments in their country. The Romanian civil society is denouncing the imperilment and the rapid deterioration of the rule of law”, reads the appeal. In particular, the concerns are due to “the unjustified practice of adopting emergency ordinances which undermine the Parliament's authority, (and to) the attacks against the judicial system through intimidation of state authorities”. Sergiu Ostaf, director of the Human Rights Resource Center (CReDO), told a news conference on Friday that the situation in Romania could directly influence the conduct of some politicians in Moldova, who could borrow “bad examples”. “The signatory organizations believe that the entire political class in Moldova should derive proper lessons and reaffirm in practice the implementation of the European integration course by engaging in civilized dialogue in the common interest of society to strengthen the independence of and depoliticize public institutions, in particular law enforcement and judicial authorities”, the appeal says. The appeal was signed by the Human Rights Resource Center (CReDO), the Resource Center “Tineri si Liberi”, the Human Rights Institute of Moldova (IDOM), the National Youth Council (CNTM), and the Foreign Policy Association.
