The Republic of Moldova is at the stage of development of NGO sustainability that ensures these organizations’ durable progression. Progress has been made compared with 2011, said the consultant of the Center for Organizational Consultancy and Training (CICO) Tatiana Tarelunga.

Contacted by IPN, Tatiana Tarelunga stated that this September, USAID, in partnership with the CICO, will present the Moldovan Civil Society Organizations Sustainability Index for 2012. The aim is to assess the development pace of civil society in 29 countries and to compare the development of the NGO sectors.

The Sustainability Index is measured based on seven indicators, namely the legal framework, organizational capacity, financial viability, advocacy, service provision, infrastructure, and public image. “These indicators are common for all the countries because it is a common methodology that enables comparing the NGO Sustainability Index between countries, based on the same requirements. The seven areas are divided into three spheres of development: poorly developed sustainability, developing sustainability and developed sustainability,” said Tatiana Tarelunga.

She also said that the Sustainability Index is measured on a scale from 1 to 7, where 1 is the best indicator, while 7 is the worst one. The previous years, Moldova had a score of 4.1. As to financial viability, Moldova has the lowest index, but in 2012 it managed to pass from low sustainability to developing sustainability. Estonia and the Czech Republic have a high sustainability level.
