A Moldovan parliamentary delegation will participate in the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) between September 28 and October 2. Though the PACE asked that the list of delegates be presented, the Parliament of Moldova has not yet agreed the composition of the delegation, the adoption of a decision being postponed from sitting to sitting,
Info-Prim Neo reports.
Speaker Mihai Ghimpu Friday said that a decision about the delegations' makeup will be taken at a sitting next week. The MPs will also decide who will head the delegation.
In the Parliament's corridors they say that the members of the Alliance for European Integration intend to name the leader of the Democratic parliamentary group Marian Lupu as head of the delegation, but the PCRM faction insists that Vladimir Voronin be offered this post.
According to the Council of Europe's statutes, the parliamentary delegations must be composed of five members and five substitutes and represent equitably all the parliamentary groups.
The parliamentary groups of the PLDM, PL, PDM and AMN already fielded the candidates for delegation members to the commission for foreign policy and European integration.
The Communist group insists that it should have two members as it is the largest group, proposing Vladimir Voronin and Vladimir Turcan as members and Maria Postoico and Grigore Petrenco as substitutes.
“If we take into account the proportion, the PCRM should hold two posts, while the other parties – three posts. They want that every group be represented, but this is not right,” said Vladimir Turcan, PM representing the PCRM.
