A number of MPs from the Chisinau Parliament are on a fact-finding visit to Stockholm, Sweden, on June 25-29. The visit is aimed at familiarising the Moldovan delegates with the Swedish experience on establishing and functioning of the office of Ombudsman for the child’s rights. The Swedish practice in this respect is among the oldest and the most appreciated at international level. The MPs will be familiarised with the activity of the lawyer’s institution for the child’s rights, practices in the juvenile justice field, and systems of monitoring the observance of the child’s rights at local level. The Moldovan MPs will also visit the Swedish Ombudsman’s Office for the Child’s Rights, the Ministry of Justice’s institution for teenagers in conflict with the law, and the “Radda Barnen” Organisation (“Save the Children”). MPs Stefan Secareanu, Valentina Buliga, Vladimir Turcan and Eva Gudumac are part of the parliamentary delegation. The visit is organised with the support of the local UNICEF Representation of Moldova and is part of the setting up of the function of the Children’s Ombudsman in Moldova, it being one of the requirements of the international treaties which Moldova is party to.
