Minister of the Interior Daniella Misail-Nichitin paid a visit to Ukraine. The ministers of internal affairs of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine for the first time met in physical format since the outbreak of the war in the neighboring country, IPN reports.
During the visit, the ministers, together with the heads of the National and Border Police of both states, inspected the Maiaki-Palanca-Udobnoe border crossing point. They also assessed the safety of the Odessa-Reni road. At the Odessa Situational Center, the delegation was briefed on the situation in the region and intervention tactics.
Among the topics discussed during the visit was the improvement of connectivity between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, which involves the development of existing infrastructure, facilitation of border crossing and opening of new joint control points. Of the 67 border crossing points of the two states, eight are already operated under joint control.
In Odessa, Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin and her Ukrainian counterpart Ihor Klymenko signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, which stipulates measures to combat corruption and related crimes, including exchange of experience, cooperation in concrete cases and joint training of specialists.
For their part, the head of the General Police Inspectorate Viorel Cernăuțeanu and the head of the General Border Police Inspectorate Ruslan Gălușca, who were part of the Moldovan delegation, together with their teams, discussed with their counterparts concrete actions to accelerate the exchange of information and common methods for jointly combating security threats, such as criminal networks, cybercrime, illegal migration and trafficking in persons, drugs and weapons.
Moldova reaffirmed its full solidarity with Ukraine and its people, who are resisting Russia's war of aggression, and agreed to continue offering practical assistance to Ukraine in order to achieve the conditions for ensuring comprehensive, just and lasting peace for Ukraine and strengthening Europe's security.
