The developments in Ukraine become dangerous for Moldova and the government is to take prompt measures to prevent the destabilization of the situation and secessionist movements. Related statements were made by the leaders of the government coalition in the program “Replica” on Prime TV channel, IPN reports.

The chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat considers that the situation in Ukraine includes all the elements of a civil war that can have a direct influence on the state of affairs in Moldova. “There are tendencies to encourage the separatist actions, including on the part of the Communists and Socialists of the parliamentary opposition, which are supported by the Kremlin. Voronin is directly responsible for what is happening in Gagauzia and in Taraclia. He and those in Moscow must understand that Moldova has its national interests, as Russia has its own interests,” he stated.

The Democratic leader Marian Lupu also expressed his concerns about the events in Ukraine. “Unfortunately, Moldova does not have instruments to influence the situation in the region. The diplomatic dialogue is our only weapon. It is yet an exceptional situation and we must intervene promptly,” he said.

For his part, the leader of the Liberal Reformist Party Ion Hadarca said the Moldovan authorities should seek protection from the United States, the European Union and the international organizations, including NATO. “The situation is serious and we must request more assistance for guaranteeing security,” he stated.
