Moldovan Judokas failed to impress at the Grand Prix tournament in Dusseldorf, Germany, which ended on Sunday, February 19.
In the absence of national team leader Sergiu Toma, the colors of Moldova were defended by Igor Soroca (66 kg), Victor Scvortov (73 kg) and Ion Remarenco (90 kg). They each won a fight and obtained only 8 points in the world rankings, based on which entries at the London Olympics are awarded, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Soroca was defeated by Georgia’s Lasha Shavdatuashvili, Scvortov by South Korea’s Ki-Chun Wang and Remarenco was eliminated by another Georgian, Varlam Liperteliani.
Despite the poor results, all three still have a chance to qualify for this summer’s Olympics. The best Moldovan sportsman of 2011 Sergiu Toma will most likely travel to London. He is 10th in the ranking and the first 22 placed qualify for the Olympics.
