The Moldovan judokas had a modest performance at the European Judo Championships in Israel. Iulian Peatikovski is the only athlete who scored two victories, IPN reports.
In the 73 kg weight class, he beat Nikola Gardasevic of Montenegro and Sam Van Twestende of the Netherlands, but was eliminated by Armenia’s Arsen Ghazaryan. In the same class, Ion Nacu defeated Latvia’s Dmitrijs Fedosejenkovs, but then lost to Azerbaijan’s Rustam Orujov.
Two Moldovan judokas competed in the 81 kg class. They were both eliminated after the first fight. Dorin Gotonoaga was beaten by Turkey’s Ilker Gulduren, while Nicon Zaboroshchuk was defeated by Frank De Wit of the Netherlands.
In the 66 kg class, Vadim Bunescu won against France’s Daniel Jean, but was eliminated by Israel’s Tal Flicker, who later won bronze.
In the same class, Denis Vieru lost the first fight to Nijat Shikhalizada of Azerbaijan. The only female athlete of Moldova at this championship Ana Budescu was eliminated by Romania’s Alexandra Pop.
