The Government of Moldova considers that the international recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia will not lead to the stabilization of the situation. At the same time, the Government says that there are no links and parallels between the situation in Georgia’s breakaway regions and in the Transnistrian region. The Government made public its official position on August 29 in a statement signed by Prime Minister Zinaida Grecianyi, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The statement says that the Government firmly rejects any method of forced solving of conflict matters, including those concerning territorial integrity, but says that the international recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia would not be a factor for stabilizing the situation. As in the case of Kosovo, such a step only diminishes the responsibility of the conflicting asides in finding a compromise between nations, their capabilities to identify fair and modern solutions, by observing the principles of territorial integrity and guaranteeing the human rights and freedoms.
At the same time, the Government of Moldova considers that there are no links and parallels between the situation in Georgia and in Transnistria and says that the assertions that the given developments can prejudice the process of solving the Transnistrian conflict are counterproductive because there are favorable prospects of solving the dispute and the participants in the talks show political will, the statement says.
The Government of Moldova says that it will continue expressing its stance on the developments in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, including on the basis of the stipulations of the Helsinki Final Act, the UN Statute and all the principles of the international law.
