More than 150 Moldovan experts who work abroad for international organizations will counsel the Government in administrative matters within a project to increase its administrative capacity that will be implemented with support from the UNDP during three years, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Details of the project were discussed by Prime Minister Vlad Filat and UNDP Administrator Helen Clark, who is paying a working visit to Moldova during September 9-10.
In a press briefing, Vlad Filat said the project to increase the Government’s administrative capacity will enable to improve governance so that the people benefit from accessible services of a high quality. The project focuses on the areas agreed during the negotiation of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU – the legal system, economic reforms, the Ministry of the Interior, and others.
Helen Clark said the UNDP supported financially a number of projects that provided consultancy in the area of public policy and this project is a continuation of the previous activities. “We allocated about US$3 million to continue strengthening public administration and to bring more experience and expertise in the field,” said Helen Clark.
This is the first official visit of the UNDP Administrator to Moldova, paid before the New York Summit on the Millennium Development Goals, where world leaders are to agree on a concrete action plan to accelerate progress towards meeting the Goals by their target date of 2015.
The program of the visit includes meetings with Acting President Mihai Ghimpu, members of the Government, representatives of the donor community and civil society, and visits to Moldovan settlements where the UNDP is implementing projects.
