The European Union urges the Moldovan electorate to “think maturely” and understand that, despite past disillusions, they need to participate in the parliamentary elections on November 28 and vote so that a parliamentary coalition can form which would be able to elect a president, stated MEP Adrian Severin, the vice-president of the Socialists & Democrats Group, at a news conference on Friday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Severin said the forthcoming elections will be crucial for Moldova. “This will be a choice between two paths of destiny, between future and past, between stagnation and development, between a modus vivendi characterized by low levels of dynamism with a future somewhere at the periphery of European history and a model characterized by European modernity”.
“In case the parliament created by this elections is fragmented and unable to form a solid enough majority, we will see this state of provisionality perpetuate itself, and we think your country cannot afford it any longer”, said the MEP.
“So, our point is, there should be unity and maturity which the people of this country should of course attain. We cannot vote in their stead, we cannot tell them who to vote for; it is their prerogative. What we would like to stress, however, are the matters that are at stake in the forthcoming elections; is that they can count on EU's solidarity in what concerns your country's European prospects”, said MEP Adrian Severin at the end of a two-day visit to Moldova.
