The positive image of the elderly is not promoted in Moldova. Most often than not, they are marginalized, being deprived of the right to actively grow old, say members of the NGO network leading an awareness-enhancing campaign on the problems of the elderly, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The elderly need to take part in the process of taking decisions, to be allowed to work in the benefit of society, the president of the Nursing Association from Moldova, Elena Stempovscaia told a news conference on Friday, April 18.
Network representatives believe the elderly are restricted the right to access to education, culture, spiritual life and entertainment.
According to the president of the association “Batranete fara tristete”, Valeriu Marciuc, the country’s leadership doesn’t allocate money to promote the elderly. They erroneously assert that the little money from international donors reach but the pockets of the NGO leaders.
The project “Strengthening NGO network and raising the civil society’s awareness as to the elderly’s problems” is funded by the Soros Foundation –Moldova and SIDA, with a total budget of USD8,000.
