Moldovan economy needs 17.5 thousand qualified labourers

Till 2011, the governmental sector will need annually up to 6,600 persons with higher education and up to 4,100 persons with secondary education diploma. At the same time, Moldova’s economy will require a number of 19,000 of specialists and 17,500 of qualified labourers. According to a decision adopted on Wednesday, the Government plans to admit in 2007 almost 23,000 students in higher educational institutions, of whom 34.1% will benefit from governmental aid and 65.9% will not. It is also stipulated a 4,800 (17.2%) cut in the number of students in comparison to the 2006 plan. In 2007 it is stipulated an increase in the number of the students enrolled to have a scholarship, by 369 persons, (+4.9%) and a reduction of 4,830 (-24.1) of those enrolled on the basis of a contract. In 2007 the share of the students enrolled in the domain of pedagogy will grow by 2.9% to 19.8%; Humanistic Studies students will represent almost 7.4% of the total number; Students in agricultural domain – 3%, compared to 2.1% in 2006. At the same time the share of those enrolled in economical, social and legal studies will diminish to 27.6%, compared to 32.5%. In the secondary education institutions is expected to enrol nearly 11,000 of students, including 48.5% - on a scholarship basis. According to the project it is stipulate an increase of 10.5% compared to 2006 enrolment data. In vocational institutions it is expected to be enrolled nearly 19,000 students with a 22.5% increase compared to the enrolment data from 2006, therefore completely covering the necessities of the Moldovan economy of qualified workers.
