The People’s Movement “Antimafie” accuses the consul general of Moldova in Italy’s Bologna Nicolae Nuca of doubling the taxes for consular services and of appropriating the difference. In a news conference at IPN, the Movement’s deputy head Daniela Bodrug said the schemes employed by the Moldovan diplomat are covered by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca.
According to the official website of Moldova’s Consulate in Bologna, the price of a consular service is €16. Consul Nicolae Nuca asks €35. “In the first half of 2013, the consul accumulated over €30,000,” said Daniela Bodrug.
A number of Moldovan citizens living in Bologna sent a letter to the Government in the hope that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the Moldovan diaspora will deal with the situation. The state bodies decided to delegate a commission to inspect the consulate, said Daniela Bodrug. She considers that this is only a method of hushing things up.
In another development, the deputy head of “Antimafie” said the money spent on the concert held in Padova during the recent visit paid by Iurie Leanca to Italy could have been used to solve the problems faced by the Moldovans who went to work abroad, not to build an image.
Daniela Bodrug believes that the Government should have immediately suspended the consul from post for the period of the investigation when it found out about the situation in Bologna.
The executive hasn’t yet reacted to the accusations.
