On World Teachers’ Day, all teachers of Moldova have been congratulated in a public message issued by the Ministry of Education. The authorities express their gratitude for the teachers’ activity in a field that is “very demanding, but incredibly necessary”.
“We congratulate the entire didactic community in the country on World Teachers’ Day, which was established by UNESCO to celebrate the work of education workers. It is yet another opportunity to express our gratitude for your dedication to work in a field that is not easy and very demanding, but incredibly necessary for the entire society”, said the Ministry of Education.
The congratulatory message stresses the role of pedagogues in shaping a democratic and prosperous society.
“What can be nobler than to contribute to the education of generations of children and young people, the true treasure of the country? We need young people able to face the challenges and changes of the times we live in, but more than that, to be able to build a better and more tolerant world. We all want a peaceful, free and prosperous society, and your role as a catalyst for the fundamental values needed in a democratic society becomes crucial. We wish you endless sources of inspiration, good health and children eager to learn!” the message says.
World Teachers’ Day has been celebrated every year on October 5 since 1994. It was designated by UNESCO and marks the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation on the Status of Teachers. The recommendation is the main frame for addressing the rights and responsibilities of teachers globally.
In Moldova, education is the second largest sector by number of employees and the largest branch of the public sector, employing about 91,000 people.
