The Moldovan diaspora in Canada requested the Moldovan authorities to send more primers “Albinuta” written by Grigore Vieru. The request was transmitted in a meeting of the head of the Bureau for Diaspora Relations Olga Coptu and members of the diaspora in Ottawa, IPN reports, with reference to a press release of the Bureau.

The meeting centered on such issues as the integrity of migrants, organization of cultural events in Ottawa and possibilities of engaging the diaspora in developing Moldova. The participants in the discussions expressed their readiness to become involved in different joint projects, saying they expect openness on the part of those who are at home.

It was noted that the Canadian authorities have an interest in the Moldovan community and offers it assistance in integration and organization of events. The members of the community can also continue their studies and acquire new qualifications. Four of the 11 persons who attended the meeting work for the Canadian Government.

Olga Coptu reiterated that the Bureau for Diaspora Relations appreciates the effort of the diaspora associations and supports the Moldovans’ initiative to stage cultural events abroad so as to keep the traditions and perpetuate the customs and the language. The second generation of migrants, who in some cases do not speak Romanian, is one of the concerns of the Moldovan authorities.
