Moldovan Diaspora criticizes policies of communist government from Chisinau

Tens of Moldovans organized manifestations on Sunday, 22 October, in Paris. They voiced their disagreement with the anti-Romanian policy of the Communist Government from Chisinau. Member of the Committee for Coordination of the Moldovans in France, Vasile Calmatui, told Info-Prim Neo that the protests took place near the Embassy of Moldova in Paris. Students, employees, employers, artists, political refugees and people illegally working in constructions advocated unification with Romania, stopping political persecutions in Moldova, reintroduction of the History of Romanians course in the school curricula, as well as denouncing the CIS and switching Moldova’s foreign policy towards NATO and the European Union. According to the same source, the protesters intended to deliver a motion to the Moldovan diplomatic mission, but their representatives refused any contact. The motion requested to stop the anti-Romanian policy in Moldova. The fact that hundreds of thousand citizens of the Republic of Moldova requested recently the Romanian citizenship shows that Chisinau authorities’ policy of the strained relations with Romania is disapproved by Moldovans, who consider themselves Romanians as well, the statement shows. Its signers urged to grant the Romanian language an official status in Moldova, to officially clarify the position of Moldova towards Romania, as well as the access to the consular services for all citizens of Moldova, regardless of their legal situation in France, to cheapen services and to reduce bureaucracy. "We wish to transmit a signal to those at home – the Union is not a taboo anymore, it is realizable", stated Vasile Calmatui. The meeting was organized by several organizations of the Moldovan and Romanian Diaspora from France (Association of Moldovan Students in France, La Porte de l'Est Association, Connexion Roumanie, the Romanian World Council). Sources from the Embassy of Moldova in Paris told Info-Prim Neo that the representatives of the diplomatic mission did not communicate with the protesters, as the Embassy has days off on Sundays, and the motion did not reach the diplomatic representation by mail yet.
