The conflict around the Varnita harbor facility problem could not be solved at the last meeting of the Unified Control Committee (UCC).
According to Ion Leahu, member of the Moldovan delegation, although there were presented numerous arguments that showed a worsening situation and constantly increasing debts for wages, the Transnistrian and Russian delegations were not impressed and refused to cancel the peace forces patrol, so that the port can resume its activity.
At the meeting from Thursday, September 14, the report of the military commandment was also not approved, as the events that violate the security area were not presented or clarified for the Ukrainian or Moldovan sides. Ukrainian representatives have reported 18 Transnistrian armored vehicles were on the move in the area, which were supposedly moving to a military training site. Although the observers insisted, the material did not make it to the report, and the Ukrainian side suggested not signing this report until the situation is clarified.
Leahu also mentioned that the Russian delegation requested complete information on the NATO military exercises that are presently carried out in the Republic of Moldova, although, according to the cited source, all UCC co-chairmen were invited on September 13 to the opening of the exercises.
Chisinau’s representative in UCC claims that there is no violation in the military exercises, as they are taking place at approx. 18-20 km from the security area.
The next meeting of UCC will take place on September 21 in Tighina.
