The communities in Moldova have mobilised to offer better learning conditions in schools and kindergartens for children. A number of 105 of the 195 representative projects of the initiative groups financed by the Moldova Citizen Participation Programme (CPP) have been implemented in education institutions. The total value of the projects is 10.8 million lei, Info-Prim Neo learned from a press release of CPP. CPP offers the communities the possibility of selecting an acute problem and assists them in solving it. According to the senior programme specialist Victor Banariuc, most often the people choose problems related to the study conditions for children and their health. With the programme’s support, the community members in partnership with the local public administration and the private sector managed to carry out repair and construction works, to fit out grounds and other facilities in 79 schools and 26 kindergartens. Some of the education institutions were provided with the necessary technical equipment, including computers. After a similar project was implemented in Soroca town, the disabled children from kindergarten No.13 and from the day centre “Icar” got a playing ground outfitted and adapted to their needs. According to the initiative group leader Anastasia Cojuhari, the people from the community can cope with the local problems. Earlier, the children did not have a place to play and did not go out often. Now they feel they are like the other children and can develop normally, Anastasia Cojuhari said. The CCP is a five-year programme intended to expand citizen awareness, promote civic engagement and encourage self-reliance while improving living and social conditions throughout Moldova. It is funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and administered by the International Research and Exchange Board (IREX).
