The Communists Party (PCRM) managed to come to power in a democratic way by making populist promises to the electorate, but it has had neither the necessary will nor the aptitude to continue the democratic processes initiated during the first ten years of independence, the MP of the Moldova Noastra Alliance Party Gheorghe Susarenco said. The vice president of the Liberal Party (PL) Dorin Chirtoaca, the Mayor of Chisinau, considers that during the past seven years Moldova has made no progress, but has regressed, Info-Prim Neo reports. In an interview for the paper “Timpul de dimineata” (“Morning Time”), Gheorghe Susarenco said that since 2001 the Communists have taken steps to demolish the formed weak democracy in every way – through state institutions, justice, economy and others. “What Voronin did, especially during his second term in office, is called usurpation of the state power. Shortly speaking, the seven years of Communist government can be described as seven years of dictatorship, demolition and decline,” says the MP. Asked what the opposition forces should do to win the parliamentary elections of 2009, Susarenco said that he does not believe in a union of parties judging by the previous unpleasant experiences. The only thing the ones considering themselves non-Communist should understand is that they should not fight with one another, the MP said. The first attacks this year, including on the independent press, show that the fight in 2008 will be dirty, difficult and dangerous, considers Gheorghe Susarenco. “Even if PCRM came to power democratically, it would be a naïve to think they will accept to leave also democratically. The press, the civil society, the democratic parties must be ready to riposte,” the MP stressed. At Monday’s sitting of the City Hall, the PL vice president and Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said that the coming to power of the Communist Party seven years ago had been a mistake. “Unfortunately, during seven years Moldova has not made social and economic progress. On the contrary, the central authorities took steps backwards. In a year it will become evident if Moldova follows the same or another path,” Chirtoaca said. At the elections of February 25, 2001, PCRM won 71 seats of those 101 in the Legislature. The party secured a parliamentary majority in the 2005 elections too, gaining 56 MP seats.
