The Communists Party (PCRM) calls on the parliamentary opposition to a dialogue and urges it to participate in electing a new president of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a statement issued on Sunday, May 24, the Central Committee of the PCRM shows itself “prepared to hold a dialogue with the representatives of the opposition parties in any configuration” and charges MPs Maria Postoico, Mark Tkaciuk and Vladimir Turcan to hold the talks with the opposition. The Communists state their “firmness to overcome the political crisis, extremely difficult, that emerged in the country after the parliamentary elections.”
“The PCRM expresses its gratitude to Moldova's European partners, who actively contribute to identify a solution for the political crisis through an open dialogue among all the participants involved – both from the ruling party and from the opposition. We consider that, despite certain incompatibility of positions, ideologies and values of all the political parties from Parliament, only this way can be backed by the voters. This is the only proof that all the mentioned reforms will be continued, that we'll find forces among us to strengthen society on the basis of the principles of state independence, territorial integrity, democracy and European option,” the statement reads.
“The availability to elect Moldova's president together would also be a symbolical, pragmatical solution for the political class of this country and for whole society,” the statement adds.
At the same time, the top body of the PCRM states that it “firmly oppose any possible blackmail, attempt to overcome the political crisis by concluding non-transparent coalitions or by imposing unachievable conditions.” “Only the political responsibility can offer Moldova a chance to avoid a new confrontation spin of mutual mistrust,” the PCRM says.
On the other hand, the three opposition parties reject any dialogue with the PCRM, a party, they say, which reached power by rigging the elections. The opposition reiterates they won't participate in electing a Communist president, pleading for early free and fair elections.
On May 20, the Parliament failed to elect a president. The PCRM's Zinaida Greceanai gained 60 votes, one short of the necessary to be elected. All the votes were given by the Communist MPs, as the opposition stayed off.
Repeated elections will be held on May 28. Zinaida Greceanai was repeatedly put up by the PCRM. Another candidate proposed by the ruling party is Moldova's ambassador to Russia, Andrei Neguta.
The PCRM faction holds 60 seats in parliament, short of just one to elect the country's president. If a president is not elected on May 28, early parliamentary elections will be called.
