A delegation of Moldovan civil society left for Kiev, where it will read a statement in support of the European aspirations of the Ukrainians. In the same connection, the National NGO Council and the National Participation Council staged a public event to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people in Europe Square in the central park of Chisinau.

In a news conference at IPN, the director of the Resource Center for Human Rights (CReDO) and chairman of the National Participation Council Sergiu Ostaf read a statement addressed to the President of Moldova, Head of Parliament, the Government and the democratic parties, by which they ask them to state their plenary support for the European integration course and the democratic transformation of Ukraine. The statement is also addressed to the Ukrainian administration.

“We call on all the democratic forces of Ukraine to continue the country’s European course, including because the real process of Europeanizing Moldova is possible only alongside and near Ukraine,” said Sergiu Ostaf.

Secretary general of the NGO Council Antonita Fonari said the representatives of the Moldovan civil society disapprove of the attempt by some players to distort the peaceful character of the protests mounted in Ukraine.

Director of the Public Policy Institute Arcadie Barbarosie expressed his concern about the use of violence by the law enforcement bodies, aimed against the peaceful people who support the European integration of Ukraine, and condemned the actions that do not correspond to the European aspirations, including the cases of ill-treatment of journalists. He underlined that the solidarity of Moldovan civil society mustn’t be interpreted as interference in the internal policy of Ukraine, but as a demonstration of support for the intention of Europeanizing Ukraine.

Political analyst Denis Cenusa, the representative of Expert-Grup, said the solidarity act is staged in Europe Square not accidentally as its name is similar to the name of the place where the peaceful protests started in Ukraine.
