The Bulgarian community established in Moldova celebrated on February 29 the 130th anniversary of Bulgaria’s liberation and the reestablishment of its statehood. On that occasion, the National Philharmonic Hall in Chisinau hosted a folk concert, organised by the Bulgarian Embassy in Moldova.
The concert featured folk dance and music bands from various regions of the country. Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Moldova Nicolay Iliev, has stated at the opening ceremony that for about five centuries Bulgaria had been under the yoke of the Ottoman Empire and despite a host of historical challenges, Bulgaria wasn’t wiped off the world map. The fact that Bulgaria is an EU member state today is the merit of an entire generation that sacrificed their lives for the liberation and the reestablishment of statehood of their country. At the same time, His Excellency has said that the concert is dedicated to all the Bulgarians that have found a home in Moldova and have kept the traditions and the language of the Bulgarian people alive.
Desislan Petrov Mihaylov, a Bulgaria native, says this is the most important holiday for the Bulgarian nation, when everybody keeps a moment of silence for those who fought for Bulgaria’s Independence. This is also an occasion to hold concerts and have fun.
