Moldovan brother and sister repatriated from Ukraine

A brother and sister from Moldova, who remained without parental care in Ukraine, were repatriated on April 23, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the press service of the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child. The three-year-old boy and the 10-year-old girl were found by the Ukrainian authorities begging in the streets in a settlement in Odessa region and were placed in temporary social centers. As the girl said, she and her mother went to Ukraine five years ago. Her younger brother was born in Odessa region. The children are natives of Stefan Voda district. They have been begging in the streets because their mother abandoned them and her whereabouts are unknown, the communiqué from the Ministry says. While choosing the protection form for the children in their home country in accordance with the law, the authorities determined that the members of the extended family of the children refuse to accept them. Therefore, the Ministry, as central tutelage authority, decided to place the children temporarily at the Social Center “Town of Childhood” located in Parata village of Dubasari district. The repatriation mission was organized by the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. This is the fourth mission. Earlier, four minors were repatriated from Ukraine, while one minor from Sweden. Seven children have been brought home since the start of this year.
