The Moldovan national athletics team finished third in the Third League of the European Athletics Championship, failing to return to the Second League, after a relegation last year, Info-Prim Neo reports. One of the best Moldovan results at the competition, which was held in Iceland's capital Reykjavik, were shown by Ion Luchianov, who won the 1500m and 3000m events. Gold medals were also won by Elena Popescu (800m), Vladimir Letnicov and Tatiana Cicanci (triple jump), Ion Emelianov (shot put), Marina Marghiev (hammer throw), Natalia Artyc (discus throw). The Moldovan team also won 4 silver and 5 bronze medal. In the men's competition, Moldova ranked 3rd with 229 points, and in the women's 5th with 211 points, with an overall result of 440 points and the third place. Israel and Cyprus were promoted to the Second League.
