The Republic of Moldova has won five medals at the Balkan Athletics Championships that were held in Serbia. In the medal standings, Moldova took the eighth position out of 16 participating states, IPN reports.
Zalina Petrivskaya became Balkan champion in hammer throw, while Dimitriana Surdu became champion in discus throw. Ion Siuris (800m) and Nicolai Gorbushko (3,000m hurdles) won silver, while Marina Nikishenko (hammer throw) won bronze.
Romania topped the medal standings, being followed by Serbia and Greece. The competition in Serbia was a training stage before the London World Championships of this August.
