A citizen of the Republic of Moldova was arrested on suspicion that he promoted terrorism. The 29-year-old man had been monitored by officers of the Security and Intelligence Service for over two years. He was the founder and manager of a virtual community on online platforms by which he recruited new supporters of the ideology of the Islamic State from among Moldovans, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Prosecutor General’s Office says the man is suspected of disseminating materials that propagate the Jihadist ideology. It was established that over a year ago, he converted to Islam on Moldova’s territory and adopted Jihadist-terrorist like behavior.

A criminal case was started against the man over public justification of terrorism. He faces a fine of 10,000 to 25,000 lei, 140 to 200 hours of community service or up to four years in jail.
