The National Army of Moldova has moved up five spots in the Global Firepower 2021 Ranking, to the 107th place out of 140 armies.
This is thanks to a good management of resources, a year-over-year increase in the budget, albeit insignificant, and enhanced interoperability with the armies of Moldova’s partner countries, Brigadier General Igor Gorga, former Chief of the General Staff, commented for IPN. Joint drills attended by Moldovan militaries and the application of Western standards are other contributing factors.
General Victor Gaiciuc, former Defense Minister, told IPN the achievement was due to “a correct management of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Army, and an efficient activity of the entire officer corps of the National Army”.
The United States holds the first spot in the ranking, followed by Russia, China, India, and Japan. South Korea, France, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Pakistan round up the top 10.
Moldova’s neighbors Ukraine and Romania are ranked 25th and 41st, respectively.
Somalia, Liberia, Kosovo, and Bhutan are at the bottom of the list.
The ranking utilizes over 50 individual factors to determine a given nation’s score, with categories ranging from military might and financials to logistical capability and geography.
