Moldovan Army tested for UN missions

Seven National Army officers alongside 40 military men from western armies are attending a special course, held for the first time in Moldova, aiming to train military personnel in assessing peacekeeping operations. The Moldovan Ministry of Defense said in a statement the trainees will receive certificates from the European Command upon completion of the course. In the same statement MoD said a motorized infantry company and a unit of sappers will participate during June 16-26 in the 2009 Peace Shield Exercise, where they will be tested for capability to participate in international missions held under the aegis of the United Nations. During the drill, the infantrymen and the sappers will be tried in a total of 26 missions and some 40 tactical situations occurring in peacekeeping operations. 10 officers of the North Carolina National Guard will assist the personnel during the exercise. For the purposes of the drill the National Army concentrated 40 units of military equipment, including 3 armored fighting vehicles, at the Bulboaca training ground.
