The Moldovan area of the Danube River, which includes Cahul, Cantemir, and Taraclia districts and the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, represents an area with high investment potential, considers the Association for the Development of Tourism in Moldova, which identified a number of investment opportunities there, including the improvement of transport logistics, rehabilitation or construction of accommodation units and extension of the health spa services.
The Association’s head Viorel Miron told a news conference at IPN that this area is very attractive because it is situated near the largest European river and is one of the biggest natural reserves. It also contains the richest ethnic and cultural diversity in the country. More than 184,000 tourists annually cross this area, but not all of them stop to explore it. “The main problem is not the lack of attractions, but the lack of an offer that would motivate the tourists to stop,” noted Viorel Miron.
He also said that the improvement of the transport logistics is one of the investment opportunities in the Moldovan area of the Danube because a good investment in increasing transport mobility for the locals and guests of the Danube area is very important. The rehabilitation of the abandoned accommodation units (summer camps and rural hotels) or the construction of new such units can be a good opportunity for the tourism business, alongside the attractions of the Danube area.
The setting up of two camps with little wooden houses, playgrounds and shops in Giurgiulesti and Slobozia Mare, which are located in the Moldovan area of the Danube, is another investment opportunity. There can be also created mobile houses, which are popular with foreign tourists. Eight stops could be built on the tourist route.
