The Information and Documentation Center for Children’s Rights of Moldova and the Social Alternatives Associations of Romania have devised the first package of resources in support of the children whose parents work abroad. The package includes a handbook for professionals, a guidebook for the parents that want to go abroad and an informative brochure for their children, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the two nongovernmental organizations. The working handbook contains practical instruments, intervention models and examples of good practices from the two countries. It includes the experience of over 3 years of direct services for this category of children. The parents that want to go abroad will have a guidebook that will raise their awareness of the situation of the child that remained at home. The preparation of the child for the departure of the parent, the adjustment of the child after departure, the consequences of parents’ absence for the children are important things that any parent should know before deciding to go abroad to work and that can help ensure the protection of the child while the parents are absent. The package of resources worked out as part of the project “Interinstitutional Crossborder Cooperation in the Protection of the Rights of Children at Home Alone” will be distributed in the six zones of the project: Iasi, Vaslui and Botosani counties in Romania and the districts of Calarasi, Telenesti and Falesti in Moldova. The materials can be also downloaded from the website www.singuracasa.ro. The project is financed by the European Union and the Government of Romania through the Romania-Moldova Neighborhood Program for 2004 – 2006. The implementation period is September 2008 – October 2009.
