The Customs Service of Moldova and the Romanian customs authority have signed a plan which involves a set of actions oriented towards easing cross-border traffic in the period of August 7-31, when transport flow grows on average by 20%, IPN reports.
According to a press release from the Customs Service, the most important measure taken by the two authority bodies are related to increased border staff and equipment, use of all crossing lanes, including those on the oppose side of circulation, as well as increased information exchange.
The press release mentions that the dialogue was intensified also due to the recent visit of Moldovan Prime-Minister Pavel Filip to the Leușeni customs point, where he identified several desynchronized elements, which cause a delay in the time to cross the Romanian border. In consequence, Pavel Filip has sent a letter to his Romanian counterpart, Viorica Dăncilă, who, in the spirit of partnership between the two countries, has requested the involvement of the Romanian Government in identifying a solution for shorter border crossing times.
The Leușeni customs continues to be the most transited point. Last week it recorded 24 thousand vehicle transits. In other periods of the year, traffic rises to around 18 thousand crossings. However, a shift at the Leușeni point employs around 18-19 inspectors, whereas Albița only employs 10-12.
