Prime Minister Pavel Filip was informed by his Turkish counterpart that the victims of the New Year’s Istanbul armed attack include a Moldovan citizen, IPN reports.
“We requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health to cooperate with the competent institutions of Turkey and provide the necessary assistance and to ensure appropriate treatment for our compatriot who was hurt in the terrorist attack and the necessary support to his family. The Republic of Moldova firmly condemns this bloody attack and offers its condolences to the grieving families and the Turkish authorities,” the Premier says in a message posted on Facebook.
According to foreign press reports, an assailant believed to have been dressed in a Santa Claus costume opened fire from a Kalashnikov rifle at a nightclub in Istanbul during New Year’s celebrations. A number of 39 persons were killed, while 69 were injured.
