The Moldovan Ambassador to Russia, Lilian Darie, today was summoned to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Moldovan MFA confirmed.
Igor Zaharov, communications advisor to Minister Nicu Popescu, stated that discussions were held regarding the Moldovan-Russian relationship in light of recent events. The Russian authorities expressed their position as to some decisions taken by the Moldovan government. “Ambassador Darie reiterated, for his part, the position of our country and the importance of respecting the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states”, noted Igor Zaharov.
Last week, the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Russian envoy over statements by a regional representative in Ukrainian occupied territories about a potential strike of the Giurgiulesti bridge. The Russian Embassy’s secretary showed up instead, saying regional authorities are not competent to decide on military matters.
