Moldova’s airspace will remain open “within the current boundaries”, announced the Civil Aviation Authority, adding that it adopted a series of decisions aimed at decreasing the risks to civilian aircraft flying to and from the Chisinau Airport.

This comes after three Russian missiles were reported to have crossed Moldova’s airspace earlier in the day.

“The Civil Aviation Authority, in concert with the Ministry of Defense and other relevant agencies, are closely monitoring the situation and will impose further restrictions if need be”, the Authority said in a press release.

On Monday, Russia hit cities across Ukraine with a barrage of missiles in response to the Kerch Bridge being damaged at the weekend. Three of those missiles, launched from the waters of the Black Sea, were reported to have crossed Moldovan airspace on their way to western Ukraine. The Moldovan Ministry of Defense condemned the trespass as posing a threat to infrastructure and especially to civilian aircraft.
