Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, said that if the Russian company Gazprom fulfills its contractual obligations, the amounts of gas needed by Moldovagaz can be secured through daily tender contests. For the purpose, Moldovagaz requested Gazprom to daily reserve additional volumes for both sides of the Nistru River during October 1-7, IPN reports.

The official told a news conference that the situation of last October, when gas supplies were cut by 30%, repeats. The difference is that there is a signed contract that must be respected. Moldovagaz received confirmation from Gazprom for 5.7 million cubic meters of gas per day to be supplied in October, for both sides of the Nistru River, of the projected 8.06 million.

“Moldovagaz asked that the contract should be honored and that additional amounts should be reserved daily. I think on Monday we will see if things change or not. When there is information, we will immediately transmit it to the public,” stated Andrei Spînu.

He noted that if Gazprom does not supply the 30% of gas as the contract stipulates, SA “Energocom” will provide gas from the stored 53.5 million cubic meters of gas. The Commission for Exceptional Situations recently ordered to supplement the state reserves with another 15 million cubic meters of gas. This amount will be bought from SA “Energocom” in two parts and will be stored in reservoirs in Ukraine.

Moldovagaz director Vadim Ceban on Saturday said the Russian gas is supplied to Moldova as usual and the purchase price of gas in October is expected to be US$1,031 per thousand cubic meters, as opposed to the price of US$1,880 paid in September.

In accordance with the contract signed with Gazprom, a price calculation formula that is more advantageous for the Republic of Moldova is to be applied as from October 1.
