Moldova wins bronze at European juniors judo tournament

Moldova's Tatiana Osoianu won the bronze medal at the European juniors' judo championship on Friday, November 18. Osoianu competed in the 48 kg category where she bested Kelly Edwards from Great Britain, Melanie Clement and Scarlett Gabrielli from France, but lost to Germany's Kay Kraus. Another of Moldova's representatives, Eugeniu Vreme, was eliminated in the preliminary fight (66 kg) of the tournament in Tyumen, Russia. On Saturday, November 19, Moldova's last two judokas, Vasile Braga (73 kg) and Vadim Bocan (81 kg), entered the competition. Meanwhile, also on Saturday, the Judo Gran Prix kicks off in Amsterdam, where points will be distributed in the world rankings. Based on them, sportsmen will be selected to participate in the 2012 Olympics in London. Moldova will be represented by Sergiu Toma, Vicor Scvortov, Ion Remarenco and Igor Soroca. Sergiu Toma has already almost certainly booked his place at the Olympics, while the others need to pull some results if they are to qualify for the Olympics.
