Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, approves of the new contributions made by the NATO member countries within the Defense Capacity Building Initiative. According to him, the Republic of Moldova is fully committed to strengthen the international partnerships with the countries and organizations that work together to restore peace in Europe and to anchor Moldova in the family of European states more firmly than ever, IPN reports.
On the sidelines of the NATO Vilnius Summit, Nicu Popescu had a number of bilateral meetings with counterparts and officials attending the event. The officials discussed regional security and ways of extending the partnerships with NATO and the member states so as to strengthen Moldova’s defense capabilities.
Minister Popescu also spoke about the European integration process in Moldova and the significant progress made by the country in implementing the nine recommendations put forward by the European Commission.
“I welcomed the final declaration of the member states by which these recognize our progress in promoting reforms and democratic norms and support the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the EU. Also, the NATO Allies said they will intensify the political and practical support for our country so as to increase resilience and security,” said Nicu Popescu, being quoted in a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
Among the discussed subjects were the preparations for the Moldovan Support Platform founded on the initiative of France, Germany, and Romania. The next such event will take place in Chisinau in October.
