Moldova didn’t fulfill all the commitments agreed with the International Monetary Fund and will thus miss the last tranche of the program negotiated in 2010. The last tranche is US$76 million, acting Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar told the journalists, quoted by IPN.

”There is time until March 31 to inform that the Government fulfilled the commitments. In accordance with the procedures, we must do it three weeks before the meeting of the IMF Board of Directors scheduled for April 20. Among the commitments is to make changes to the state budget and to do other important things. I don’t think we will manage to. Therefore, the examination of the issue concerning Moldova will be cancelled and we will be in a suspended state, i.e. without a program with the IMF,” explained the official.

According to Valeriu Lazar, a program with the IMF for a country like Moldova represents a signal given to the international donor community that things go right. The suspension of the program with the IMF will have negative consequences for Moldova. Lazar said that regardless of the composition of the new executive, they will have to regain the IMF’s confidence and to negotiate a new program with it.
