Moldova will learn from the experience of Romania and the Czech Republic in covering the path to the EU. Head of Parliament Igor Corman, after a meeting with the chairmen of the Chambers of Deputies of the two states Valeriu Stefan Zgonea and Jan Hamáček, said that this experience exchange will protect the Moldovans from the mistakes made by the Romanian and Czech authorities in the European integration process, IPN reports.
Igor Corman told the journalists that Moldova benefited from support from the two states. Without this support, it wouldn’t have obtained a visa-free regime with the EU and wouldn’t have been close to associating itself with the EU.
Jan Hamáček said that this was his first visit to Chisinau and he wanted to make it this year, witch is very important for Moldova not only because there will be held parliamentary elections, but also because it will get a visa-free regime with the EU and will become its associate. In 2014, the Czech Republic marks 10 years of the accession to the European Union. The path to the EU wasn’t a short one as the accession application was submitted in 1996.
For his part, Valeriu Stefan Zgonea said that the visit of the two officials to Chisinau represents a signal of support from Romania and the Czech Republic. “Romania will make effort to be the first EU member state that will ratify the Association Agreement with Moldova, after its signing. We believe that Moldova chose the correct path,” he stated.
He added that the rhetoric about the situation of the ethnic minorities should be brought to an end. In the EU, there are states with minorities that managed to fulfill their dream of becoming prosperous countries within this community. Valeriu Stefan Zgonea called on the Moldovan political class to show responsibility.
