Eight new municipalities will be created in Moldova besides the existing five. Parliament adopted in the second reading a bill that institutes the municipalities of Cahul, Edinet, Hancesti, Orhei, Soroca, Ungheni, Straseni, and Ceadar-Lunga, IPN reports.
The bill was passed by 55 votes in favor. The informative note to the bill says that when the law is adopted, the mentioned towns will become comparable with the municipalities in the European Union.
The law provides that 40% of the incomes collected on the territory of municipalities will remain in their budgets.
So far Moldova had five municipalities: Chisinau, Balti, Comrat, Bender, and Tiraspol.
