The doctors will be able to work on Moldova’s territory only after they join the College of Doctors, IPN reports, quoting a bill on the organization and functioning of the College of Doctors that was examined by the Government.
Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi said that this organization will be the successor of the Doctors League that was created at the end of the 1980s.
“The creation of professional organizations with the aim of ensuring public control over the profession is in line with the international practices and does not run counter to the national legislation. There are similar organizations of lawyers, notaries and bailiffs. Such an organization is needed as the relevant tasks are now carried out by the Ministry of Health,” said the minister.
“The College of Doctors will be a public organization that will have very important duties. It will include lawyers whose duty will be to protect the rights of doctors and to examine the accusations made against doctors. The College will have the right to take not only administrative measures. If a doctor does not meet the requirements, he/she can be excluded from the organization, being thus deprived of the right to work. We hope that this professional body, which was created according to the models of Romania, Russia, France, and Italy, will bring improvements to the health system.”
Andrei Usatyi said the members of the College of Doctors will pay membership dues on enrolment. The College will work at national and local levels and will represent the interests of doctors at public debates on health policies and programs. It will also suggest promoting doctors to different public posts in healthcare.
The legislative initiative was put forward by MPs. In order to take effect, it is to be passed by Parliament.
