Moldova will be supported by Hungary in the European integration process. The emotional and political climate between the two states is extremely favorable and should be transformed into cooperation and economic advantages. “We will contribute to bringing Moldova closer to the EU, but the solutions to all the problems must be found inside the country,” said Hungarian Foreign Minister János Martonyi after a meeting with his Moldovan counterpart Iurie Leanca on February 2, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Hungarian official approved of the effort made by the Moldovan authorities in the process of liberalizing the visa regime with the EU, saying that Moldova is a success story within the Eastern Partnership that can serve as an example for other countries. “I should have come to Moldova long ago. This meeting was short, but productive. We had a very friendly and constructive discussion. Moldova is a priority for Hungary and we would like to intensify the commercial relations, the investments and technical projects,” said János Martonyi. Iurie Leanca said that they discussed the economic and political cooperation between the two states. “We considered organizing an intergovernmental meeting and how to attract Hungarian investments to Moldova. Hungary is one of the most fervent supporters of Moldova within the friendship group and over time supported Moldova in the relations with the EU,” he stated. The Hungarian foreign minister also met with Acting President Marian Lupu. The two officials investigated the possibility of starting a series of cooperation projects. “Hungary was and remains an important partner for Moldova at regional and European levels. There are no unsolved problems and tense areas between the two countries. We agree excellently on all the subjects,” Marian Lupu said after the meeting with János Martonyi. The first visit paid by the Hungarian foreign minister to Moldova coincided with the celebration of 20 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Hungary is among the first states that recognized Moldova’s independence and opened an embassy in Chisinau, which is now a Common Visa Issuing Center.
