Moldova was invited to the European Energy Community as a full-fledged member

Moldova, alongside Norway and Ukraine, was invited to the European Energy Community as a member with full rights. The decision was taken on Thursday, June 28, during the meeting of ministers of the Energy Community Treaty, which took place in Tivat, Montenegro. According to the head of the Economic external relations department of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure, Andrei Aculov, the agenda of the meeting included an issue regarding the examination of applications for membership, which Moldova submitted on January 15, 2007. Moldova is therefore the member candidate for accession to this community, representing an extended space with developed infrastructure and attractive legislation for investors. The decision of the summit was mirrored in the Ministerial Conclusions – a document of decisions of the Ministerial Council (CM). According to the document, following technical evaluation, the European Commission recommended the launch of the formal accession process of Moldova, Ukraine and Norway. The Ministerial Council wishes for a rapid accession process so that Moldova, Ukraine and Norway are accepted to the 2007Energy Community Treaty, on the condition to meet all requirements. Moldova presently holds an observer status in the Treaty of the Energy Community, represented by Vladimir Antosii, Minister of Industry and Infrastructure. The Energy Community currently includes the following countries: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Serbia, as well as the European Union, represented by the European Commission. The Community was created in July 2006, when the Constituting Treaty was enacted.
