Wine makers from Moldova count this year on a quality of grapes higher than the past 5 years’ average, Valeriu Mironescu, Director General of the Agro-industrial Agency “Moldova Vin” declares. According to the quoted source, the harvest of this year will be smaller compared with the last year, because of the strong frosts in winter, which affected the vines. But the high temperatures registered in the last months ensure, though, a higher quality. For this autumn, the specialists of “Moldova-Vin” foresee a global harvest of 470-480 thousand tones of grapes, including 150 thousand tones in households. The dessert grapes constitute about 30 thousand tones. The wineries from Moldova announced previously their intention to buy 250 thousand tones of grapes from collective farms. A “hot line” will be created in order to inform the collective farms and the processing enterprises about the harvesting process. At the same time “Moldova-Vin” will settle the approximate price for the purchase of grapes from producers, depending on the quality of the grapes and costs. At present, the vineyards in Moldova are planted on an area of 150 thousand hectares.
