The Moldovan national Under-21 football team lost at home to Romania, 0-1, in a qualifier for the 2011 European Cup on Wednesday, thus missing the chance to qualify for the final round, which will take place in Denmark, Info-Prim Neo reports. The only goal of the game was scored by Liviu Ganea on the 24th minutes, following a penalty obtained by Gabriel Torje. All the attempts by the hosts to change the score remained futile. [Moldova U21 squad:] Copelciuc, Carauş, Caraulan, Potîrniche, I.Andronic, Ioniţă (c), Slivca, Ţurcan (Vornişel 70), Dedov, Grosu (Bondarciuc 77), Sidorenco (Antoniuc 46) [Manager:] Serghei Chirilov Elsewhere in the group, Russia defeated Latvia, 2-1; and the Faroe Islands defeated Andorra, 3-1. The current leaders in the group are Russia and Romania, with 21 points each. Moldova have 10 points, below Faroes with 11 points, and ahead of Latvia (9 points) and Andorra (1 point). Moldova will play Feroes on September 4.
