Moldova slipped two spots in the World Bank Doing Business rankings, taking the 83rd position among 185 participating countries, Info-Prim Neo reports. Moldova achieved results in such areas as registration of property (16th place), honoring of contracts (26th place), and lending to businesses (40th place). The situation is worse in the obtaining of construction authorizations (168th), connection of enterprises to the electric power supply system (161st), and international trade (142nd). Romania ranked 72nd in the general rankings, while Ukraine – 137th. Singapore has led on the overall ease of doing business. Asked to comment on the rankings results, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that Moldova is one of the 10 reforming countries. “We focused on the reform of the justice sector, the Ministry of the Interior, the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime and of education. We are yet to concentrate on reforms aimed at improving the investment and business climate,” he stated. Vlad Filat said in this connection that an Economic Council under the Premier is to be constituted the coming days. “We need to discuss not only draft laws and decisions, but also their impact on the businesses with the business sector. We should not forget that all the countries want to take a better place in these rankings. We must move faster,” he added.
