Moldova's team at the European Union Boxing Championships performed admirably. The athletes coached by Petru Caduc returned with two gold medals and four bronze.
Alexandru Riscan (52 kg) and Veaceslav Gojan (56 kg), both from Grimancauti, became champions. Riscan toppled France's Elie Konki in the final, while Gojan bested Finaland's Matti Koota. Meanwhile, Vasile Bleous, Dumitru Galagot, Victor Carapcevschi and Victor Lalimov won bronze. Moldova ranks first among 23 countries in the medal charts.
“My thoughts are only about top places at the Olympics and the World Championships”, coach Petru Caduc told IPN.
The EU Boxing Championships took place between August 7 and 17 in Sofia, Bulgaria. This was Moldova's first participation in the competition.
